Challenging Environments

I read an interesting piece of information today. Here's the quote:

"Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment. That isn't my theory. It's a fact." - L. Ron Hubbard.

I find it interesting because I cannot think of one environment that man has not strived to overcome, and all environments are challenging. It's pretty thought provoking. I mean, what if we had a completely unchallenging environment? Would we make up something to make the environment challenging or would we let it be and enjoy it. I think man would invent something to make it challenging, but that's just me. What do you think?

There's two sides to that. Things can also be too challenging. I found this article quite helpful: http://www.scientologyhandbook.org/SH12_1.HTM

So for me it's about finding that optimum level where it's challenging enough to be interesting, but not so much that it's overwhelming.

Maybe that's why I enjoy computer games - You can adjust the difficulty level.

Now where's the "easier" button for my life? I'm sure it's around here somewhere... :-)

I can agree with you that an environment can become so challenging that it's dangerous - which isn't good for anyone.

It's always good to take things on a gradient approach - like go from level 1 to level 2 and so on - not going from level 1 to level 20 in one go.

Not sure where that elusive "easier" button is... Staples said they had it, but I think that was stretching the truth. :)
