Seasonal Quote - Niceness
"You could say that the only times for which you were suffering are those times when you weren't nice enough. When you weren't kind enough and when you weren't unmean enough and those are the only times from which you're really suffering. ...
"The only thing you should ever be tough about is insist that the other fellow ought to stand on his own feet, too. And the only way you'll ever communicate that to him is to communicate it to him in a very nice way. Then he's liable to receive it."
— L. Ron Hubbard

"Punishment to restrain somebody from doing something never did otherwise than worsen that person. To restrain a person by threat of punishment from action will inevitably worsen that person. Oddly enough, it's true. Slow him down. Because it takes his awareness away. It reduces his ability to confront life.
"How about the other way around? How about punishment, threats and duress to make him confront something? Unfortunately works! And those of us who have had a great deal to do with the world of men and the world of duress know that it works, and we very often fall into the fallacy of believing then that punishment works."

Precept 3 of the Way to Happiness
"3. Don't be *promiscuous.
Sex is the means by which the race projects itself into the future through children and the family. A lot of pleasure and happiness can come from sex: nature intended it that way so the race would go on. But, misused or abused, it carries with it heavy penalties and punishments: nature seems to have intended it that way also."
This breaks down into one additional precept:
"3-1: Be faithful to your sexual partner."
I, personally, feel that this is a very obvious one. You only have to watch one episode of Cheaters to see how it feels to find out your sexual partner is cheating on you. God forbid it ever actually happens to you.
History, newspaper and television carry floods of instances of violence due to human passions aroused by unfaithfulness. "Guilt" is a mild evil when compared to the monsters of jealousy and vengeance.
Not only do human passions get aroused, but there is also the question of health. Having multiple sexual partners lays you and your partners open to sexually transmitted disease such as AIDs and HIV.
The problems of sexual misbehaver is not new. The powerful religion of Buddhism in India vanished from there in the seventh century. According to it's one historians, the cause was sexual promiscuity in it's monasteries.
The urge of the moment can become the sorrow of a lifetime. Don't allow yourself and those around you to fall into the trap of sexual promiscuity.
Precept 2 of the Way to Happiness
This precept breaks down into two points of common sense:
2-1: "Do not take harmful drugs."
2-2: "Do not take alcohol to excess."
This is, of course, common sense. One who is on drugs does not always see the real world in front of them. They can be dangerous as they are not really there. If one was working with a person on drugs, or driving on the highway next to them, there is a possibility of that person doing unpredictable and often dangerous things.
When one takes alcohol to excess, they are not alert. Alcohol impairs one's ability to react - even when it seems to the person drinking that they are more alert.
Both drugs and alcohol have cause innumerable pain and hardships on those around the drug or alcohol user, as well as to the user themselves. These scourges have caused countless deaths, the majority of deaths caused when they are used to excess.
*Temperate: Not going to extremes; not overdoing things; controlling one's cravings.

Precept* 1 of The Way to Happiness
"1. Take Care of Yourself"
This precept breaks down into 5 separate points, which are:
"1-1 Get care when you are ill.
"1-2 Keep your body clean.
"1-3 Preserve your teeth.
"1-4 Eat properly.
"1-5 Get rest."
All of the above actions are common sense. When you are sick or injured, you should take the appropriate steps to get better or heal. Keeping your body clean will lower your risk of germ related diseases and help you maintain a good relationship with your friends and family. Preserving your teeth is something you must do if you want to be able to eat, which brings us to eating properly. Eating properly can help your whole body do well. Getting rest will enable you to be sharper and more on top of things, not to mention make you feel healthy and make you less accident prone. To see what Mr. Hubbard has to say about the above five points, check out www.twth.org.
*Precept: Rule or statement advising or laying down a principle or principles or course of action regarding conduct; directions meant as a rule or rules of conduct.

Happiness
The first section is called: "Why I gave you this book", where Mr. Hubbard states, "Your survival is important to me."
The next section called "Happiness" says:
"True joy and happiness are valuable.
"If one does not survive, no joy and no happiness are obtainable.
"Trying to survive in a chaotic, dishonest and generally immoral society is difficult.
"Any individual or group seeks to obtain from life what pleasure and freedom from pain that they can.
"Your own survival can be threatened by the bad actions of others around you.
"Your own happiness can be turned to tragedy and sorrow by the dishonesty and misconduct of others.
"I am sure you can think of instances of this actually happening. Such wrongs reduce one's survival and impair one's happiness.
"You are important to other people. You are listened to. You can influence others.
"The happiness or unhappiness of others you could name is important to you.
"Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives.
"While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be."
"It is in your power to point the way to a less dangerous and happier life."
-L. Ron Hubbard
I am sure you can think of times when you wished you were happier or times when your friends suffered and you didn't know what you could do to help them. I'm going to be posting different sections of this book and I hope you will share them with friends and use the information yourself to lead a happier life. Your survival is important to me too, so tune in next time for another chapter of this common sense guide to better living. If you're impatient, check out www.twth.org and find out more about The Way to Happiness.

Wow, I haven't posted in a while
There have been programs using this booklet being implemented in a variety of places: schools, prisons, businesses, even governmental bodies. Here's what some of them have to say:
" The Way to Happiness doesn't compromise a person's existing religious beliefs or social status. In a sense it is all pervasive, that whether a Muslim or HIndu, even a nonbeliever, it can make a very telling message that is relevant to your own circumstances." - Retired Guyana Prime Minister.
"The goals and patterns and methods of The Way to Happiness seem to me to be about as dramatic a response to the prayers of the forefathers as could possibly be contrived...methodic faceted ways to improve the moral, the physical, the intellectual aspects of the culture in which we live." -Author of Roots
"We have decreased the violence in the school by 80% over the school year. We have decreased disrespectful attitudes towards teachers, decreased vulgar language and gestures...kids are now more apt to sit down, calm down, think about what to do and set a good example. It's a 100% improvement." - School Principal.
I'm going to start posting a section or "precept" a day from the book "The Way to Happiness" and give examples about how it can be or is being applied today.

Quote about Government
"If a government were very strong, if a government felt very secure, if a government could see and was well upscale, it would employ the most peaceful, quiet methods...
"You don't find an educated, secure man fighting with all of his neighbors. No, the person who fights his neighbors is a very insecure, not at all sane man."

Ethics Crisis
The Way to Happiness booklet goes over ways to make the best choices by comparing your decision or action to the non-religious moral code written in the pages of this booklet.
For 24 years this book has reached out to people and governments alike and helped them make the ethical choice in life, whether it be creating a policy, stopping immorality and criminality or any other choice that individuals and governments face on a day to day basis.
Check out this booklet it's been helpful in my life, it's helped governments make better policy and helped individuals live a more peaceful, saner life.

Are things Complex?
"All things are complex when they are poorly understood." - L. Ron Hubbard.
To me, this quote is applicable to everything, be it work, games, or Scientology. If you really want to know about what Scientology is, and it seems complex or mysterious, get a book written by Mr. Hubbard that explains it. Some such books are "What is Scientology?" or "Dianetics - The Modern Science of Mental Health" or "Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought". If Scientology seems complicated to you, check these books out so you can get a better understanding of what it's all about.

Is Scientology a Religion?
"a set of institutionalized rituals identified with a tradition and expressing and/or evoking sacral sentiments directed at a divine or trans-divine focus seen in the context of the human phenomenological environment and at least partially described by myths or by myths and doctrines." This definition was given by Ninian Smart.
Then he defines a church as:
"1 A church is a conventional religious organization.
"2 A sect is a deviant religious organization with traditional beliefs and practices.
"3 A cult is a deviant religious organization with novel beliefs and practices."
These definitions were excerpted from Stark and Bainbridge's work A Theory of Religion.
Mr. Hexham states:
"When I was first asked to pass judgment on the religious nature of Scientology I conducted a small random sample survey of people participating in the activities of the Church of Scientology in Vancouver, B.C., Canada (1978). The results of this survey plus qualitative interviews with Ms. Davidson, a number of other local Scientologists, and an examination of a number of key texts published by the movement convinced me that in terms of Ninian Smart's definition Scientology is a religion. Looking at the data again it should also be noted that Scientology also qualifies as a religion in terms of Stark and Bainbridge's definition.
"Thus in terms of two standard and widely used definitions of religion there is no doubt that the Church of Scientology at that time qualified as a religion. I have no reason to believe that in the last twenty years things have changed. In fact, if anything the religious aspects of Scientology have increased."

How Dianetics has helped me.
When I was 16, I hit a point in my life where I didn't know what I should be doing, where I was going, and even why I was still living. I wasn't about to kill myself or anything crazy like that, but I basically hit a depression. At this time in my life, I started receiving Scientology spiritual counseling - called auditing. I enjoyed it and it made me feel happier. There were still times when I was depressed, but I was much happier overall. Then I read the book Dianetics, the Modern Science of Mental Health and received the spiritual counseling that the book lays out. During this period of time, I could finally rise above the depression, the doubt and worry, and work out where I was going in life and why I can continue to exist. This was a huge breakthrough for me.
I think I could honestly say that if I had not gotten this spiritual counseling, I would most likely be either dead right now, or headed that way. As an added bonus, since my Dianetic auditing, I have not only not been depressed, but I am happier, my reaction time is better, my ability to duplicate things has gone up, and I feel I'm more myself.
Mr. L. Ron Hubbard wrote this incredible book and laid out these tools for people to use. I hope anyone and everyone takes advantage of them.

The Problems of Work
Have you ever wanted to become more efficient, ever wondered why work was even neccessary, why some people succeed where others fail and why you get so exhausted just by doing work? Have you ever wanted to handle any of these things? Well, check this book out.
For example - say you are insecure about your job. I know I have been and I am sure others have had the same sense of "what if someone better comes along" or "what if I can't get this project done on time and I get fired" or simply, "what if they fire me".
Mr. L. Ron Hubbard says:
"Insecurity exists in the absence of knowledge. All security derives from knowledge."
He later states:
"Knowledge of the general underlying rules of life would bring about a security of life. Knowledge of the underlying rules of life would also bring about a security in a job.
"Scientology is a science of life...
"A science of life would be, actually, a science of good order. Such things as accidents and luck would, if you could but understand their underlying principles, be under your control."
He later goes on and states how one goes about gaining security and what the science of good order is. So, if you are interested in getting your job and your life under control - check out this book. If you are having a specific problem in life, find the answer for it on this website.

"Personal integrity is knowing what you know -
"What you know is what you know -
"And to have the courage to know and say what you have observed."
"And that is integrity
"And there is no other integrity."
When you lose your personal integrity, you have lost the most important thing that you have. Every time I have done something contrary to my own personal integrity or compromised my personal integrity due to peer pressure or something else, I have been unhappy and failed or done worse in that activity. I am sure this has also happened to other people, maybe there has been a time when you did something you knew was wrong and you felt bad and failed at some activity because of it.
This course shows you why this is and how to keep your personal integrity intact, even through life's bumps and problems.

Scientology Courses - The Sucess Through Communication Course
Here's what L. Ron Hubbard has to say about communication (and I agree with him!):
“A man is as dead as he can’t communicate. He is as alive as he can communicate.”
The Success Through Communication Course really helped me with my communicating problems.
L. Ron Hubbard created this course to help people like you and me who have trouble communicating, whether it be to a specific person, a kind of person, or to anyone.
This course gives you practical, hands on exercises to learn how to communicate better. You can gain the ability to:
- Resolve upsets.
- Make yourself understood.
- Initiate conversations.
- Steer a conversation in the direction you want.
- Keep a discussion on point.
- End a dialogue smoothly.
- Keep a discussion from going “dead”.

Memorial Day
Lieutenant L. Ron Hubbard served in the Navy during World War II until he was injured in action, which landed him in the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital. While there he researched what is now Dianetics. He applied these procedures on himself and also on other war victims in the hospital, ultimately bringing a number of our fighting men back to health.
His patriotism was only exceeded by his desire to help his fellow man. In his own words:
"I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days.
"These shadows look so thick to him and weigh him down so that when he finds they are shadows and that he can see through them, walk through them and be again in the sun, he is enormously delighted. And I am afraid I am just as delighted as he is." - L. Ron Hubbard.

Drug Rehab
The history is pretty amazing. In 1966 a three time convicted felon and hard core drug addict was arrested once again for a drug related office and put into prison. He read a book by L. Ron Hubbard and was able to overcome his drug use, which had been going on for years. After corresponding with L. Ron Hubbard, who offered advice, the felon initiated a program to help out his fellow inmates and addicts to overcome their drug addictions. The program spread to other inmates and after his release, this man spread his program even further to include non-incarcerated addicts. Now Narconon operates over 106 groups in 36 countries. It has gotten 16,000 people off drugs with a success rate of over 70% of it's graduates living completely drug-free lives.
There's a ton of wins and successes from this program. They're really awesome.
If you or anyone in your family is addicted to drugs or alcohol, go to http://www.narconon.org and get the help needed to live a happy, drug free life.

The Way To Happiness Foundation
This book has helped thousands in everyday living, just by showing them simple ideas that make it easy to tell right from wrong. I read it when I was 18 or 19 and it showed me how to live a happier life, why I don't have to lie to get my way, and all sorts of things. I would say that personally it made my life happier. And it could do the same to you. It's non-religious and very simply written, with definitions of larger words in the glossary and in footnotes, so pretty much anyone can read it.

Dianetics - The Evolution of a Science
In the spirit of the 56th anniversary of Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health, I'm going to be posting information about the book, plus some history.
Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health was written just after Dianetics The Evolution of a Science.
The Evolution of a Science goes over such information as:
- L. Ron Hubbard's first description of the true potentials of the human mind.
- How L. Ron Hubbard discovered the "basic personality".
- How the Dynamic Principle of Existence was first isolated.
- The exact mechanics of the reactive mind, and how it can control you like a puppet, creating and enforcing negative emotions, attitudes and behavior.
- The anatomy of prenatal experiences and how they affect you.
- Why one takes on the personality - and irrationalities - of people.
- The principles, use and results of Dianetics - exactly how and why it works.
This book give you the key to really understand your mind and shows the progression by which Dianetics and - later- Scientology was developed. It's the first book that Mr. Hubbard wrote on the subject.
In Chapter Two "What Life is Doing", Mr. Hubbard says:
"My right to enter this field was an inquiring brain which had been trained in mathematics and engineering and which had a memory bank full of questions and far-flung observations.
"It was the basic contention that the human mind was a problem in engineering and that all knowledge would surrender to an engineering approach.
"And another primary assumption was made:
"All answers are basically simple."

Drugs
A few months ago I was taking a walk in Glendale and stopped in the park to swing when two guys who were around my age came up to me and asked me if I wanted to smoke pot with them in the far end of the park. This was in a family park, where little kids go to and where I grew up. I felt disgusted to know that there could be joints floating around there, and maybe even more hardcore drugs.
There are drug dealers and users all around Hollywood, and people will openly admit that they are on or using drugs. Per a survey taken on drug use in 2004 96.7 million people had ever tried or consistently used pot, 34.1 million had ever tried or consistently used cocaine, 7.8 million people had tried or used crack and 3.1 million people had tried or used heroin. This was by 2004 alone! That's over 100 million people who will admit to having used drugs in America. It's a frighteningly high amount!

Scientology Prayer
“May the author of the universe enable all men to reach an understanding of their spiritual nature.
“May awareness and understanding of life expand, so that all may come to know the author of the universe.
“And may others also reach this understanding which brings Total Freedom.
“At this time we think of those whose liberty is threatened; of those who have suffered imprisonment for their beliefs; of those who are enslaved or martyred, and for all those who are brutalized, trapped or attacked.
“We pray that human rights will be preserved so that all people may believe and worship freely, so that freedom will once again be seen in our land.
“Freedom from war, and poverty, and want; freedom to be; freedom to do and freedom to have.
“Freedom to use and understand man’s potential – a potential that is God-given and Godllike.
“And freedom to achieve that understanding and awareness that is Total Freedom.
“May God let it be so.”
The person who wrote this prayer was L. Ron Hubbard. Pretty beautiful huh?

Really cool interview
Dianetics is something that I haven't really talked about on my blog yet - probably because this is my third post, but it's a book that L. Ron Hubbard wrote in 1950, mostly to answer the questions that people had been asking regarding his ideas on the mind. He had published an article or two about the mind, which is what sparked all of these questions, but he had not actually found a solution for the problems that he found were occuring in the mind. He found the answer and put it all in the book Dianetics. If you want to check out the Dianetics website, click on one of the three links in this post

Hello!
My dad has a super cool blog called http://myscientology.blogspot.com. He's been blogging way longer than me, so if you want to browse three years worth of blogging on Scientology, with links and information about the subject, check out his blog.
Also, there's the official Scientology website, http://www.scientology.org. This site is chock full of information regarding Scientology, what can be done about it, along with facts about any and all things you've been hearing in the news lately. I'd try to give you links about everything I've heard, but this site pretty much covers it. If you want more sites to go to right away, look at my dad's blog until I get the hang of html.
I'll leave you with this little tidbit from the Scientology website in a section labeled "What is Scientology" (http://www.scientology.org/en_US/religion/presentation/pg006.html)
"The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."
"Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths."
If you'd like to find out what those truths are, go to www.scientology.org.
